For Rosa

This Halloween
I betcha
White power punks are shaking their
Steel toes in disbelief
Flipping through mutilated bibles for reassurance
So scared their neck hairs line up like Nazis

I betcha
Terrifying tales are jumping across
Camp fires
Bonfires
Burning crosses
The charred remains of a nigga
Their mouths agape with
Ash covered faces now whos the jiggaboo
Hearts banging on ribs when they relive
That terrible, terrible day
A woman
A black woman
said no

Walls tumbled and
Panic-stricken they screamed
Take that crown OFF on this bus!
Hold your head down!
My children are watching! but
Instead they got the
Great grandma to the almighty
Dont give me no bullshit, one hip cocked out
Talk to the hand neckroll

This is the story that makes
Grown men under sheets
The real Hood Rats
Squeal like bitches
Leave little yellow spots and
hold each other in darkness

mortified because they know
Somewhere Strom Thurmond stood up
And walked to the back
Cuz that's HER seat now
Somewhere
Tom Metzger cringes at all the honor that
His passing will never get

And Somewhere
This Halloween
I betcha
Scared little racist boys
realize the terrible reality
Is horrifying legend forevermore
Like a ravens nevermore
And now a strong defiant black woman
Sits silently in the front
of their dreams

- If at some point I run off and elope with a
white woman, at least you've been warned. *wistful sigh*

"It's mostly the voice..." - © Guru

BTW, get that new Bah Samba joint and start thinking about Miami next year.

- ...which reminds me, why is the most crucial music in my new acquisitions of the past couple years all coming from the UK?

- Someone needs to put 18 yr old Jazmine Sullivan on a tune with Georgia Anne Muldrow. And Jive Records be damned for hooking up a child genius with Missy and Timbaland and then not knowing what to do with her because she's not going to dance around nekkit like Ciara.

- I need methadone treatments to wean me off of The Rebirth album.

- Soulive gave me asian bird flu.

- J*Davey is iPod porn, even if you don't have the new video jont.

- The Geto Boys made one of the best songs of the year. Word to the Houston O.G.'s

- Stevie's album isn't wack. *exhales* I was actually scared to listen to this when I got it, I don't need any more of my icons to fall. Stevie and De La seem to be the only cats that never disappoint... for now

("my dj adds depth to the word 'pessimism'" - © natlaw, "Shut Up")

- Pooh and Phonte are really perfecting that 1, 2 combo in the footsteps of past dynamic rap duos. 9th just didn't wow me consistently this time out, particularly when folks like Illmind are wringing everything that's still fresh out of that style. "Lovin' It" is as strong a single as any though.

- Rhymefest. Kanye. "Brand New". OOOOOHHHWEEE!!!!!

LB is seriously one of THEEE albums of the year. If there's anything I miss about mainstream and almost-mainstream rap collectives is cohesiveness, creativity and thought. "Minstrel show" had all those to boot...plus say you don't like Percy....LOL.

I'm still scared to peep Stevie's album even though you've stamped it. that whole "What the fuss" dance sequence on that awards show still gives me the shivers. Sit you ass down and tickle the pearly whites and balladeer.

9th didn't dissapoint but I liked the Chitlin Circuit better. But er erm whould does rhyme with 15?

hmm

the Day 2 brackets are wildly competitive... the Vanity division is murderer's row!

I think that Vanity bracket should have been named after BerNadette Stanis instead.

This is a bit like reading tea leaves, but am I to understand that this just might be an official DJ Stylus endorsement of this project?

Is it truly everything a nerd rap fan could ever want?
