My Baby Girl turned 1 on yesterday

and took her first 4 steps at the birthday party

in front of everyone -

cousins screamed

Mommy yelled

Gramma wept

Big Brother pushed her down but

Daddy just smiled uneasily & thought

"she can go where she wants now -

in a world where a child can be ripped from a parents arms

by stray bullets

strangers with ill intent

or even by flood waters

how can I keep her safe or better yet

how can I keep her coming back to me?"

I'll take any hints or suggestions, cuz for real

those 4 steps just scared the hell outta me....

you can't keep her from walking away. what you can do is make sure that she walks in the direction of people who know and respect her worth.

My daughter started walking at 8 months yet didn't start talking until she was almost four. She's six now in the second grade reading on a fourth grade level. She walked to school by herself Tuesday (stalkingly followed) I'm not worried about her steps, I'm worried about worldly snakes 10 years from now who can take advantage of 16 year old college Freshman.
