allow me to flashback for a minute...
-i miss promoting our shows at state; ain't quite found a "pseudo-state" to replace it, now that metro cafe is gone too.
-not sure about the u-turn: is the sound system any good?
-between friends could be the jont, but the sound is definitely not band ready (c'mon y'all, get a board!!)
-cada vez isn't really built for shows, but it does appear to be an option
-club 5 is starting to sound better, but errybody and they folk is scramblin' to get up in there
we need a bb kings, or a SOB's "WE BUILT THIS SPACE TO HAVE DOPE SHOWS" type of venue. capacity of 200 for that cozy feel, but you can still make it happen ($$$) off the door. decent parking situation. metro accessible. with a cool management team and some bangin' bartenders that slide me free gimlets every time i come in the door...
anybody got info on that spot, lemme know

None of the students at Southampton High remember exactly what started the beef between 11th graders D'von Trucker and Jerome Jenkins (names have been changed) but it almost doesn't matter anymore. Maybe D'von was jealous of all the accolades & trophies Jerome received playing for the football team, or maybe Jerome heard the rumors of D'von talking to his ex-girlfriend. Whatever it was, it all came to a head in the school gymnasium during an assembly. Words flew, along with several fists, and since D'von was the obvious instigator & aggressor, he ended up winning himself a 5-day ticket out of school. Simmering 3 days into his suspension, though, he acted on his rage, came back up to Southampton & did something that left the student body reeling...
He killed Jerome Jenkins.
lyrically.
D'von went home & recorded a scorching 7-song ep dissing the piss outta his classmate. Using instrumentals from all of his favorite songs (mostly 50 cent jonts), D'von spent his suspension venting on everything from Jeromes bad breath to his sorry-ass fighting skills, to loudly questioning his manhood & sexual preference, even insinuating Tupac-hit-em-up style, that D'von had already been with his ex-girlfriend & she too questioned his sexual preference. D'von showed up at school on the 3rd day of his suspension & dispersed 2 dozen copies of the "Fuck Jerome Jenkins" EP and by the end of the next day, the school was in an uproar.
The ILL part about this is Jerome doesn't rhyme, but he has mad business sense, & so he's at work "producing" a compilation CD of his crew all aiming THEIR lyrics at D'von. I hear a pay per-view event is in the works...
...and that's why I love hip-hop.
who's to say that they haven't saved a life by expressing their anger vocally instead of physically. Maybe we could get certain world leaders to follow their cue...

As I type this, almost 20,000 people of all creeds & colors are gathering
in front of the U.S. Supreme court to make their voices heard one last
time before the Court puts a bullet in the head of Affirmative Action
The court is about to fuck up. Here's why
A.A. aint about white
or Black
or class
or education
or even "getting payback for the past"
It's about getting that level playing field we always talk about
It's about the minority in power having to defer to the majority
who aren't - just a little.
It's only a coincidence that those who aren't in power happen
to be of color because if History had been just & the Native Americans
were the ones in power - Affirmative Action would Still Be Neccessary.
If a Black or Hispanic or Asian were sitting in the CEO's chair
looking across at a poor White applicant - Affirmative Action would
STILL BE NECCESSARY.
Because no one knows whats in a persons heart
And history has taught us to assume whe worst
...that the minority in power will do whatever it takes to keep
themselves & their children rich & comfy for generations
...that they will happily do this at the cost of those who are at the BOTTOM
of the ladder
There are still bigoted people sitting up on high - anyone remember Texaco?
Affirmative Action is only a policy change - there's no law that can
reach in & change a man's soul.
THAT's why we need A.A.
but hey - there's still a chance that 'ol "coke can" thomas will realize
that he GOT HIS FREAKING JOB due to A.A. (how can he NOT see? -
he's the ONLY BLACK IN THE CLUB!!!!)
walk out & shake hands with Michael Eric Dyson
& Al Sharpton - fall to his kness & beg forgiveness...
